Our mattress company was begun in 1905 by the grandparents of the present owner William Arthur Steves. Grandmother Mary Steves would stuff and sew the mattresses at home while grandfather William Henry Steves would load the mattresses onto a horse or mule-drawn cart and peddle them throughout the county. They named their business Anderson Mattress Company since they were located in Anderson, Indiana.

Upon their deaths the company passed to Arthur Steves, the eldest of Mary and William's three sons and father of the present owner. Upon Arthur's death, the second son of William and Mary, Walter, ran the company until the present owner, William Arthur Steves, took over in 1969. William, better known as Bill, has been at the helm since then.

The company's name has since changed to University Sleep Products, Inc. to better reflect our specialty line of mattresses and sleep products. Presently, BIll's son David is now working with the company to make this  multi-generational, family-owned company a business that will be around for many years to come.
